Slugs CARE and Title IX Presentation (REQUIRED)
This mandatory interactive, three-part presentation promotes community standards and highlights resources available to support students’ wellbeing and success.
Slugs CARE is designed to empower incoming UCSC students to be active in preventing sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking in their communities. Students will learn about affirmative consent, bystander intervention, dynamics of sexual and relationship violence, and how to support survivors. Slugs CARE is hosted by CARE (Center for Advocacy, Resources & Empowerment), which provides free and confidential advocacy and support to individuals impacted by harm. Visit care.ucsc.edu for more information.
SHOP (Student Health Outreach and Promotion) will introduce their services and highlight the ways they support students in having safe, fun, consensual experiences while at UCSC. SHOP offers support with alcohol, drugs, sexual health, and college/life balance through the lens of harm reduction. Visit shop.ucsc.edu to learn more.
The Title IX Office will highlight their role in preventing and responding to gender and sex-based discrimination. This session will provide campus-specific information supplementing the Sexual Assault Prevention online program all of you must complete. It will emphasize your Title IX rights and options and the expectations the University has for all of its members. For more information about the Title IX Office, visit titleix.ucsc.edu.
All incoming undergraduates must attend one of the Slugs CARE and Title IX webinar sessions and will receive an email to their UCSC email address with the subject: Slugs CARE and Title IX Presentation Confirmation. This email contains webinar information and a unique link to access the webinar. We encourage students to add the event to their Google Calendar so they will have easy access to it.
