Welcome Week Hikes
Various Times (see description)
Welcome to what might be the most ecologically diverse campus in the world! Our campus is so rich in life that we have a 789-acre natural reserve that is used for engaging students in education, research and stewardship activities. Join UCSC Campus Natural Reserve staff on a hike as you get to know each other and some of the local flora and fauna in your incredible backyard. This is also a great time to find out about internship opportunities and other ways to get involved with learning about nature at UCSC. There will be hills, but we will take an overall slow pace. Bring water and sun protection. For information on the different hikes, visit: https://ucsccampusreserve.ucsc.edu/news-events/news/welcome-week-hikes-2023.html

Academic Integrity (highly recommended)
9:00 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. (PT)
Humanities Lecture Hall 206
What does academic integrity—the policy itself, the values behind it—mean to you? How will we define and practice it in your new community here at UCSC?
In this interactive session, we’ll discuss the whats, hows, and whys of academic integrity at UC Santa Cruz. We’ll 1) identify some of the values commonly associated with integrity, 2) review how the Colleges, as well as how instructors, their courses, and the assignments in those courses expect you to practice those values, and 3) brainstorm tips and personal action plan(s) for clarifying expectations and ensuring you can keep excelling with integrity throughout your academic career.
You’ll leave with a better understanding of what academic integrity means and looks like; more ideas about where to go, how to connect with campus resources, and what you can do instead of taking shortcuts that might end up violating policy; and greater confidence in your ability to live, communicate, and study according to your values.
Attendees at this session will also receive one of several special edition “Integrity Sammy” stickers! Please join us.
