College Academic Advising - MANDATORY for all new students!
Each college has an Academic Advising Orientation, most of which are held on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday. Refer to your College's Welcome Week Schedule to find the date, time, and location of your college's Academic Advising Orientation.

College Programs
8:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Colleges will hold important events and programs during this time - some mandatory, some optional. Refer to your College's Welcome Week Schedule to find the date, time, and location of your college's Academic Advising Orientation and other mandatory College Programs.

ID Card Services: Open To ALL Students
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
ID Card Services Office (Quarry Plaza, near Bay Tree Bookstore)
Photos for student IDs; government issued ID required along with Student ID number. Card received at the time of service.  Also, open to all replacements, exchanges, and make-ups. Students living ON campus who took their photo at Summer Orientation may pick up their IDs at their college of residence during Move In. Students living OFF campus who took their ID photo at Summer Orientation may pick up their IDs at their college of affiliation’s Housing Office starting on September 18. Consult your college's Welcome Week Guide or contact your college Housing Office for location and hours.

Students from the Campus Orientation Office are available to answer questions about the Welcome Week schedule or any other questions you may have about the campus.

Residential Network (ResNet)
10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed from 12-1pm) at Rachel Carson, Room 258
10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Colleges Nine and Ten:  Recreation Lounge
ResNet assists with Internet access on campus (Ethernet and WiFi) as well as with general computer repair.  Staff will be available for assistance during Welcome Week. Phone support available from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 831-459-4638.

Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE)
12:30 - 3:30 p.m.

What to bring:

  • Copy of your receipt or fee waiver (print copy at https://www.awpe.org)
  • Photo ID
  • At least 2 dark ink pens (blue or black)

*Any student with Disability Resource Center approved exam accommodations, regardless of college affiliation: Oakes Rooms 101/102/103

*Students needing exam accommodation should contact the Disability Resource Center at least one week before the exam at 831-459-2089 or by e-mail at drc@ucsc.edu.

This exam is required of all entering frosh who did not take the May AWPE and did not satisfy ELWR via other means. Students should pre-pay for the exam at https://www.awpe.org/candidate/. If they qualify for reduced/no fees, the web site will make this clear when they log on.

Students who took the universitywide AWPE in May or who took the test during Global Start, may not retake the exam on September 24.

There is a fee for this exam, which students are expected to pay in advance via this web site: https://www.awpe.org/. Be sure to print out the receipt for your payment and to bring it with you to the exam.
